The Glass Sold the Project

The homeowners were improving the pool area of their waterfront Southold home, where the pool sits on a raised patio. Frameless glass became the defining element of the project because it could provide the pool barrier without visually closing off the property and water beyond.

Once the glass scope was established, Sunrise also completed the aluminum railing at the raised pool area and a PVC outdoor shower enclosure. The result is one project using three materials for three different jobs, with the frameless glass remaining the visual centerpiece.

The Design Decision

Keep the waterfront open

The raised pool patio needed a real barrier, but a visually heavy fence would have changed the experience of the property. Frameless glass answered the central design problem: define the pool area while allowing the lawn, landscaping and waterfront to remain part of the view.

That is what sold the project. The glass was not an accessory added after the fact; it was the reason the overall installation came together.

A Better Fit for the Pool Area

From a cable-railing inquiry to aluminum

The homeowners originally called about cable railing. At this raised pool area, however, the railing also had to work within the pool-barrier requirements for the project. Sunrise recommended aluminum instead of simply installing the product first requested.

The aluminum gives the steps and raised edge a defined, durable guard while allowing the frameless glass to remain the dominant visual element around the pool.

The project also included a white PVC outdoor shower enclosure beside the home. It is a separate functional element, but part of the same completed Southold installation.
