A Different Direction for Cedar Privacy

The homeowner knew she wanted something different from a conventional vertical privacy fence. She preferred horizontal lines and took an active role in choosing both the board layout and the way the posts would appear in the finished design.

Sunrise translated those preferences into a complete fence system using horizontal cedar boards, pressure-treated posts, coordinated gates and carefully repeated proportions across the property.

The Challenge

Create privacy without defaulting to a standard vertical fence

The design needed to provide a substantial boundary while reflecting the homeowner’s preference for a more contemporary horizontal appearance. The posts also needed to remain visible as intentional parts of the composition.

The Solution

Balance solid cedar with a lighter upper rhythm

Broad horizontal cedar boards form the more private lower portion of each section. Narrower spaced boards continue above, reducing the visual weight at the top while carrying the horizontal pattern across the fence and gates.

Visible pressure-treated posts divide the long runs into consistent bays. Finished caps, cedar trim and black gate hardware turn those structural elements into deliberate design details.
